LG Velvet - a game changer for LG flagship models?

LG is known worldwide for it’s innovative appliances but has been trailing behind Samsung and Apple with not much of its phone initiatives getting noticed. LG recently released its new flagship phone, the LG Velvet. This model comes with the capability of 5G packed in a sleek design. At a price point of just US$599.99, LG Velvet offers a wide range of specs that includes:

  • 6.8-inch Display
  • Triple Rear Cameras - 48MP, 5MP Depth & 8MP Ultra-Wide
  • Water and Shock Resistant
  • AI Smart Battery
  • 4k video recording
  • 3D Sound Engine
  • Andriod 10

LG attempted to redesign its previous phones by coming out with a wide premium model. Though priced in the midrange field, the LG Velvet comes with a curve design, in a wide selection of different colours ( Aurora White, Aurora Gray, Aurora Green, and Illusion Sunset) and recently adding three new colours to the mix (Blue, Red and Pink). Compared to LG’s previous flagship models, the LG Velvet is definitely a step up in terms of design, feel, and specs. LG also focused on its UI design to create a very colourful and interactive feel for the user. Furthermore, this model is compatible with the LG dual-screen case for those of us that want to extend the display size.

LG Velvet does come with a few issues that hinder with the overall performance of the phone. Though having three rear cameras, the camera stabilizer is pretty weak and as tested by PCMAG the night performance camera feature isn’t up to par as well. Furthermore, the 5G capabilities in the LG Velvet are limited to certain networks with slow speeds.

Overall, LG Velvet definitely holds high with a strong battery span, water and shock-resistant capabilities, interactive display and with the affordable price tag. This phone is a stepping stone for LG flagship models and worthy of a shot.
